Loyola University Health System neurologist José Biller, MD, has been appointed editor-in-chief of Frontiers in Neurology, a new peer-reviewed journal.
The journal said Dr. Biller is a "bold innovator" and a leading expert in the field of neurology, with special expertise in stroke and vascular neurology.
"These are exciting times in the clinical neurosciences, and meaningful advances in research and clinical care have been made in neurology and related disciplines," Dr. Biller said. "The field is vast, complex, increasingly interdisciplinary, rapidly expanding and intellectually challenging."
Dr. Biller also has served as editor of the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases and editorial board member of 11 other journals and publications, including Stroke, CNS Drugs and Cerebrovascular Diseases. Dr. Biller is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and 110 book chapters. He has edited 14 books and given more than 440 invited lectures and presentations domestically and internationally.
Dr. Biller is chairman of the Department of Neurology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, American College of Physicians and Stroke Council of the American Heart Association. He is an active member of the American Neurological Association.
