Psycho-Oncology Program

The Psycho-Oncology Program at the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center of Loyola University Medical Center is devoted to helping individuals affected by cancer and their families to navigate the cancer experience from the time of diagnosis, through treatment/recovery, to the ultimate return to usual roles and life style. The Psycho-Oncology Program has experienced clinical staff who understand the stresses of a cancer diagnosis and have the skills necessary to help individuals cope and maintain the best possible quality of life during this time of life.

  • Marital/family therapy
  • Psychological assessment services
  • Coping skills, training and stress management
  • Instruction in relaxation skills and meditation techniques
  • Biofeedback training
  • Behavioral coaching in self care strategies to manage illness and treatment effects
  • Strategies for the management of pain
  • Crisis intervention
  • Bereavement counseling
  • Support groups

Services are available on an out-patient basis and for patients who are hospitalized at Loyola.
